Consistently good quality

This was my third time ordering from History By Mail. I've previously gotten the Presidential Letters and the Colonial America Documents. This time, I went with the National Parks Add-on Subscription. As usual, the archival reproductions were excellent. The detail is always impressive. They consistently deliver high-quality replicas, which is why I keep coming back. Shipping took about 5 days to reach me in California, which is standard for them.

Good value for 1 year

I was looking for something educational for my son and found History By Mail. The 1 Year History Subscription seemed like the best deal compared to the monthly option. I saw they had annual subscription savings, which made me decide to go for it. The first envelope arrived in about a week. The Civil Rights Documents were very detailed. It felt worth the purchase given the price I paid for the whole year.

So much fun!

I got the Monthly Historic Replica Subscription and it's been amazing! The Space Exploration Replicas I received were just incredible. The quality of the paper and the printing was really top-notch. I loved reading through all the details. It's such a unique way to learn history. I'm already looking forward to next month's delivery. I'm definitely going to shop here again and tell all my friends about it!

So, are these documents actual copies, like scans, or are they recreated? Like, if I get a WWII document, is it a picture of a real one or someone just made one up?

S Sandra 4 weeks ago
They're high-quality replicas, so they're based on actual historical documents. They put a lot of effort into making them look and feel authentic, even the paper and inks sometimes. They're not 'made up' at all, they're reproductions of real stuff.

They're legit reproductions, not fakes. Like really good copies of the original historical papers.

Hey, thinking about getting this for my dad for Father's Day. If I buy it as a gift subscription, does it automatically renew or can I just do a one-off thing for a few months?

L Linda Thomas 1 week ago
Nah, if you pick the gift option, it's usually just for the period you pay for, like 3 or 6 months. It doesn't auto-renew unless you specifically set it up that way. I did a 3-month one for my nephew and it just stopped after that.

Yep, can confirm. Gift subscriptions are generally a one-time purchase for the duration you select. Pretty straightforward.

Wondering about coupon codes. Do they ever have like, a free first month or something? Or is it usually just a small percentage off an annual plan?

S Susan W. 1 week ago
They often have first month discounts, especially for new subscribers. I got one when I first signed up a few months back. Keep an eye out around holidays too.

Yeah, I've seen both. Sometimes a percentage off annual, sometimes a good deal on the first month. Just gotta check their site or social media, they usually promote them.

Hey, anyone know if they ship to Canada? Or is it just a US thing?

B Brandon Brown 2 weeks ago
I think they do ship internationally! I seem to recall seeing that in their FAQs when I signed up. Might be extra shipping costs though, of course.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do. My friend in Toronto gets it. It just might take a little longer to arrive.

Is History By Mail any good for actual history learning or is it more just a novelty thing? Trying to decide between this and something like Honest History for my homeschool curriculum.

W William Allen 3 weeks ago
It's pretty good! The documents are really high quality replicas and they often include some context. For a full curriculum you'd probably need more, but it's a fantastic supplement, especially for primary sources. My kids love seeing the actual 'feel' of the documents.

I think it's more of an engaging add-on. For deep learning, you'll want textbooks or more structured programs. But it definitely sparks interest and makes history feel more real than just reading about it.
